Membership Details and Application
We offer members two categories of membership. Members may opt to receive a standard paper magazine-style Newsletter or an E-Journal style Newsletter. The content of each version of the Newsletter is the same. The difference is that there are no costs involved in sending out an E-Journal but providing the paper version involves both printing and postage costs. This results in a lower membership fee for E-journal membership.
Members make their choice once a year when they first join or when they renew their membership. To join or renew, please return a completed form issued with the November Newsletters, or download a form from our Downloads section, or join online by purchasing the correct product from the Membership section of the Online Shop and paying via Credit/Debit card or with a PayPal account.
If you do not wish to renew your membership online, you can send us your Application or Renewal Form by posting it to us with your cheque or come in to our Research Centre at 9 Glasgow St, Dumfries and pay the appropriate subscription fee.
Please renew before the 31st January to allow our volunteer staff enough time to prepare the mailing of the March Newsletters. The membership year runs from 1 January until 31 December each year and our newsletters are published in March, July and November.
Members joining or renewing after 31st January will have their membership registered immediately. Arrangements will be made to provide new members with all the Newsletter copies already published in the current year, but they may not be sent before the issue of the next newsletter.
If you need to follow-up on an unacknowledged membership application made more than 7 days ago, contact the UK Membership Secretary or the Overseas Membership Secretary. Please bear in mind that the Society relies on volunteers to deal with the many areas of its service provision. We have no full-time staff. Membership applications are normally processed on a weekly basis. Holiday periods may cause longer response times.
UK Membership Details and Subscription Rates for 2024
Standard Membership £11.00 : E-journal Membership £7.50
UK members have the option to pay by Standing Order, Bank Transfer, or PayPal and may arrange Gift Aid.
Overseas Membership Subscriptions for 2024
Overseas membership is the approximate equivalent of:
Standard Membership £14.00 E-Journal Membership £7.50
Note: For Overseas members (new and renewing) the preference is to use PayPal and the Online Membership Form. However it may be possible to send a cheque in your own currency (dollars) – or use direct Internet Banking (details from the Overseas Membership Secretary).
Overseas members in USA, Canada, New Zealand and Australia who receive standard paper Newsletters will continue to do so through their agents. Agents receive them in bulk by airmail and then post them on to members ensuring minimum delay from publication date to receipt. Members who have signed up for the E-journal version will receive their copy directly to their email address.
THIS NOTICE APPLIES TO E-JOURNAL MEMBERS
Members can avoid legitimate mail being rejected by adding our E-Journal sending addresses to their address book. For UK members that is mbrs-sec-uk@dgfhs.org.uk and for Overseas members it is mbrs-sec-os@dgfhs.org.uk. Do that and your Server anti-spam protection should recognise our address as a legitimate source of DGFHS material and accept mail from that source.
